Food safety is a major public health concern. Public interest in recalls and contamination has grown in recent years, yet there is no centralized way to report all food‐related issues because the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the safety of the nation’s domestically produced and imported food products, except meat, fish, and poultry, which are regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Using public feeds from FDA, USDA, and the Canadian Food Inspection Administration (CFIA), the Dovel team developed MyFoodAlerts.com. Using semantic technology, the site analyzes recall data and then plots all active recalls on a map and provides links to detailed data on these alerts. The site is platform agnostic and designed to work for mobile as well as desktop access.
