Dovel Technologies Awarded FDA Laboratory Information Management System IDIQ
Company’s work will help evolve laboratory environments for greater efficiency
McLean, VA November 8, 2011 – Dovel Technologies announced today that they have been awarded an IDIQ contract from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for support of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) program.
FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) operates mainly five types of laboratories — microbiology, food chemistry, drug chemistry, devices, and forensics. The ORA has 14 site labs and two mobile labs. The LIMS solution will provide the needed capability to manage the analytical workflow operations in ORA labs for approximately 825 users supporting sample accountability, data analysis, document control, report generation, and other lab operation functions.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the company to expand our application of SOA approaches to meeting the challenges of the Health IT market,” said Paul Leslie, CEO of Dovel. “We are looking forward to working collaboratively with the FDA to create a more automated, integrated, and efficient laboratory environment.”
Dovel’s partner, STARLIMS Corporation, will provide its unified platform that includes LIMS, SDMS, and ELN functions all critical components of the Dovel solution. STARLIMS is a completely web-based solution designed for a wide variety of laboratory environments operating in many scientific and industrial disciplines. STARLIMS consolidates disparate business processes into a single, compliant unified platform with comprehensive reporting, surveillance, and networking capabilities.
“The combination of the STARLIMS technology and the health IT expertise of Dovel will provide a powerful solution to the data access and sharing challenges of ORA,” commented Adam Welsh, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Health IT at Dovel.
The five-year IDIQ contract vehicle has a $58.1 million ceiling. Dovel has already been awarded several task orders for building the framework necessary to achieve the objectives of the LIMS program. In addition to STARLIMS, Dovel will perform the contract work with support from JPC Partners, LabAnswer, and SAIC.
